Update on Dirty Dancing
The continued progression in ungodliness
in dance among young people should be evident. This contains various quotes
from different sources for descriptive purposes.
What is Sin?
To sin you must transgress Christ’s law (I Jo. 3:4). If a Christian says
it is ok then you’d first think that they don’t see that there is any sin
involved.
1Th 5:21 Prove all things; hold
fast that which is good.
1Th 5:22 Abstain from all appearance
of evil.
1) “appearance” [G1491, eidos] –
Thayer def. 1. form, kind, i.e. from every kind of evil or wrong, I Th. 5:22.
2) A related word by
Thayer’s/Strong’s Number: from G1492 eidō
to know: - be aware, consider, (have) known
(-ledge), look (on), perceive, see, be sure.
This is talking about things that are
evil or wrong according to God’s Word. In other words you can look and see (be
sure) that it is sinful. I didn’t have to ask about the “dance club” at one of
the high schools here for I went and watched their workouts and what I saw was
sinful. Even the counselor agreed with me way back then when my children were
in school; he said that he had tried for some time to stop the kind of thing I
watched for their practice, but it was so important socially to both parents
and students nothing was done, nor did he think would be done.
Is All Dancing a Sin?
In the bible you find expressions of joy that were appropriate (cf.
Judges 11:34; Eccl. 3:4; Jer. 31:4; Lk. 15:25 “dancing” G5525 choros - Thayer
Definition: 1) a band (of dancers and singers), circular dance, a dance,
dancing. The Bible didn’t try to hide dancing that is other than religious.
Religious dance as found in the O.T. (cf. Psa 150:4, Judges 21:19, 23)
is not taught in the New Testament (Col. 2:14) – dance groups performing for
churches today are unscriptural. There is no authority for “religious dance” as
a work of the local church.
The dancing of Israel before the golden calf: Exo 32:6 “rose up to
play”: “play” – defined as ‘to mock, scorn’ - “It may have sexual, licentious
overtones” (TCWSD). This dancing was sin; the dancing before the Golden Calf
was not in praise to God, nor was it appropriate in any sense. What kind of
dancing provokes God’s wrath?
Freaking - Also Called
“Booty” and “Sandwich” Dancing
(Circa 2000 A.D.)
Here is an example of seeing something clearly wrong. It described in
the following quote as: “Back to back, front to back. Girls sandwiched between
two grinding guys. Girls on their hands and knees with one boy dancing against
her backside and another dancing in her face. Girls on the ground with guys
grinding above them. Guys and girls pole-dancing like dancers in a topless bar.
Guys moving across the dance floor ''poking'' randomly at girls.”
And again notice this description and what happens by the time they get
to high school: ''You have not lived until you have seen 11-year-olds
freaking,'' said one mother who's been at several of these dances, and spoken
to teens about them. ''And since this is their only experience with dances,
they don't see it as a problem. MTV has desensitized most of them. By the time
they get to high school, they don't even call it 'freaking.' It is just
dancing.''
Here is one from a principal who cared: "This is simulated sex in a
culture that's very coarse.” Answer: The course of this world which is
according to Satan is seen in those who belong to the Devil, the children of
disobedience (Eph. 2:2-3). Truth is this kind of dancing is older than some of
our teen agers. This kind of dancing is often a prelude to fornication and
adultery!
The works of the flesh in Gal. 5 include filthy dancing: “Now the works
of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness,
lasciviousness, …drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell
you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such
things shall not inherit the kingdom of God” (Gal. 5:19-21).
1) “lasciviousness” (sensuality,
wantonness): Henry Thayer’s Gk. lexicon: "wanton manners, as filthy words,
indecent bodily movements, unchaste handling of males and females, etc."
What kind of
“Atmosphere” entails dirty dancing?
“Atmosphere”: 3. a surrounding
influence or environment (Webster’s Dictionary).
What kind of music is greatly involved? Think of rhythm and words as
they invade young people’s minds and control them. Think of the emotions and
thoughts produced. What kind of bodily movements are looked upon and
participated in? And these go with the "touching, rubbing together."
Add the kind of dress and attire. Every year it is the same old sad story of
parents and their kids upset over enforcement of dress codes at the school
dances. You’ll see it all again in the news this school year, “They turned away
MY daughter!” Even homosexual couples and lesbian couples, and trans are an
item in some schools now. The Bible teaches individuals can take pleasure in
ungodliness.
Dancing Around the
Works of the Flesh
Videos (MTV) —- should be identified as an enemy of righteousness (Gal.
5:19 “are manifest”).
Complaints include “You’re criticizing their culture and their music.”
Let me tell you it is not difficult to find a scriptural reason to do that! (I
Th. 5:21, “prove all things…”).
Parents quoted as saying “I’m tired of all the arguments with them.”
Answer: You cowards! Eph. 6:1-4 says you are supposed to be the boss. Nothing
is gained when parents are obeying their child!
This quote is on what kids say: “If you ask, the kids will tell you
freak dancing has nothing to do with sex. That it is harmless and meaningless.
That it is only dancing.”
Answer: They are good liars and manipulators. Consider this definition:
“Freak dancing is a style of urban dancing, usually performed to R&B, pop,
rap, hip-hop, or Latin music. It involves two or more people making extremely
close physical contact, and facial expressions and physical movements that are
sexually provocative and/or that imitate sexual intercourse and foreplay”
(Urban Dictionary: freak dancing).
Quote from a senior: "Dancing is just a form of expression, like
the way you dress. It doesn't have anything to do with sex.” Answer: The
ungodly justify lasciviousness; is it ok to dress like a whore? (cf. Pr. 7:10).
Another quote from one older: “We’re from the
sixties and we weren’t anti- sex.” Answer: That’s right out of Rom. 1:32 isn’t
it. Peter said “For when they speak great swelling words of emptiness, they
allure through the lusts of the flesh, through lewdness…” (2 Peter 2:18).
I read this as stated from a young woman: "Some people get really
dirty about it, and guys get all on you, which is gross, but most guys are
respectful." Answer: Where is the anticipation of dishonor? Why would you
want to be where such is taking place?
A sex ed. teacher is quoted as saying: ''What do we want our kids to
understand about sex?' …That it is meaningful, that it is private, that it is
in the context of a relationship, that it is freely chosen, that there is a
lack of pressure. And I am not just talking about sexual intercourse. I am
talking about any sexual activity.” Answer: More confusion! God put sex in
Marriage and that eliminates your confusion! (Matt. 19:4-6; Heb. 13:4).

A Newer Dance is
“Grinding”
Grinding implies hard pressed contact of the bodies together. Here’s a
definition: “Grinding is explicit rather than suggestive. It’s anonymous,
rather than intimate. It reflects a lack of boundaries. Crowds of teens …in
public are a screaming declaration that nothing is private or personal.”
Some describe it as “Teens grind in a tight crowd, with the raunchiest
grinding taking place at the center of the crowd.” One said: “Teens argue that
grinding is harmless—no one gets pregnant or even catches a sexually
transmitted disease from grinding.” Answer: You often hear from the stupid —
“It won’t hurt you!”
The Amoeba Dance
The reports from various places concerning what is generally termed
“dirty dancing” include where students at a Pennsylvania high school were doing
a new dance move called "the amoeba" — all the kids gathering in a
cluster and... it involves spitting on the floor. I read where it was thought
that perhaps it was something other than spittle left on the floor. On that one
it was reported locally that another local high school is trying to ban dirty
dancing at proms. And why would that be?
“Daggering” came out of
Jamaican Revelries
“This is a Dancehall.Mobi definition of a term or phrase that is popular
in the dancehall and / or in the lyrics of Jamaican deejays and singers.”
Consider this definition: “What is daggering? …daggering is where a man
and woman are dancing in a sexually provocative manner, which usually includes
them simulating various sexual positions …to the beat of whatever music is
playing at the time. In recent times, dancehall artistes RDX and Mr. Vegas have
both released daggering songs in tribute to the newly accepted name for an
action / activity that has been present in Jamaica’s dancehalls for many
years.”
Conclusion:
These kinds of lascivious conduct exists in various schools and places
where people dance. If you find such at a school what’s taking place at private
parties? The pollutions of the world increase to more ungodliness; this world
is just adding sin to sin and many students can’t wait for the next addition. I
Cor. 15:33 Do not be deceived: "Evil company corrupts good
habits."
