You Were Pagans Carried Away Unto Dumb Idols (I Cor. 12:2) Many are simply not aware of the various “other” designations for the Gentiles – such as “pagans,” “heathens,” “infidels” and “unbelievers.” This is especially true when some of these refer to IDOLATERS. The world is divided into two divisions: Christians and the whole world that lies in the power of the evil one, Satan (I Jo. 5:19). Notice the emphasis given to one either being “in Christ” or “without” i.e. “outside” of Christ (Col. 4:5).

Don’t Thank The Sun, Thank God! Old pagan beliefs and practices surfaced during the Christmas Holiday. In referring to the “sun” in this title I am thinking of the winter solstice. One article which I read stated the sun was being thanked for its promise that light will prevail and another life-summer will eventually follow. What man sorely needs is to read how God offers salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ. In doing so they will see the folly of paganism with its rank IDOLATROUS PRACTICES, some of which have crept back into modern society.

Infanticide ~ #1 Penalties, Israel’s Idolatry and Practice This is beginning of articles on infanticide. Before I get to our current cultural and political state in these here is some Biblical history that is all important – Israel’s IDOLATRY, for when Israel turned from God it turned to false gods and practiced infanticide.

Infanticide ~ #2 Cultural, Political and Moral Aspects Here is a brief look at cultural, political and moral aspects of INFANTICIDE and ABORTION. Using Will Durant’s “Caesar and Christ” the depths to which a society is capable of sinking in pagan immoralities is seen in ancient Carthage and Rome. Our nation has similar connections of abortion and infanticide with sexual immoralities, adultery, prostitution and the deterioration of marriage and the family structure. “Limiting” by abortion and infanticide are products of our own godless society! Ignorance, Ignoring and Intent This article deals with the fallacies of people who reason if I don’t know then I won’t be accountable – these forget Sin; people who reason that you don’t know my “intent” – I’m sincere in what I do – these often also forget Sin; people are led to believe if you can’t prove my “intent” then you must accept my actions. People will lie to cover intent (Eph. 4:14). Error that stems from IGNORANCE never leads another or others in the right way! To “IGNORE” does not imply sincerity but the opposite – this is a large part of what contributes to “IGNORANCE” in our churches and among brethren individually.

Major emphasis is also given to the RULE OF LAW of law being attacked by ignorance, wrongful intent, good intentions, sincerity, carelessness, IGNORING, impulse and inconsistency, showing partiality, outright defiance, distortion of one’s words and partial narratives of the Word (to neglect to teach the whole counsel of God, Acts 20:27, 32.). Applications include God is no respecter of persons, to show respect of persons is sin, the kind of judgment that condemns oneself, and the one who boasts in God’s law but dishonors God through breaking the law.

Memory #2 You may desire to read “Memory #1” for April 2016 before this continuing article concerning some simple applications pertaining to one’s memory. Emphasis in this article is given to the importance of our remembering our own past conduct. Paul did not exclude himself when speaking of past conduct before his conversion – stating plainly that he acted IGNORNANTLY as a blasphemer, persecutor and violent aggressor (“injurious”) against the church. He included himself in being foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another (Titus 3:3). There is also the importance of our not forgetting even one of God’s benefits of salvation in Christ. Once restored one must not revert back--- thus once again forgetting the necessary obedience for salvation in Christ.

Shame Has Its Place A Study of Shame. When lives spiritually are at stake to save them shame matters (!!) and has a place. Shame is a consequence of sin that is a violation of God’s law; with sin there is sting of conscience (that’s shame). Having obeyed the gospel, you still feel shame for past sins now (at the present time): Rom 6:20 For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. Rom 6:21 What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. > This is a reminder the outcome of those things is eternal death in Hell. > Those who exchange their soul’s salvation for material things are ashamed of Christ, and He will be ashamed of them when He comes – they will be lost eternally: (Mk 8:34-38). To think you can spend your life not going to church, not serving God in “every good work” (Titus 1:16, 3:1) is to be self-deceived – THIS IS THE MATERIALISTIC MAN’S OWN IMAGINATION (Pr 18:11).

About the Label “Advertisement” On Our Articles I’m often asked why there is a label of “advertisement” at the bottom of the church’s articles. They’ll often say, “No one else’s does, why yours?” The newspaper places it there. Consider this: While the designation is accurate, for our articles tell people about the church of Christ, it is obvious that the content is what we are seeking to get forward (Cf. 1 Tim. 3:15). There should be a distinct difference in what a church of Christ presents to the community, and that of the various false religions. And there is if the church is doing its work as it should. By refusing the often sought “marketing approach” the Truth becomes apparent. It is the Truth that is important in contrast to sin and religious error. Included is an exposure of the oft used “Try Us And You’ll Like Us” pitch. Such advertisements seek to take away the fear of having one’s IMMORALITY exposed, and thus one being seen in the true light of the Scriptures. Read where Jesus spoke of this very thing: Jo. 3:19-21.

The Transgender Attack This contains two newspaper articles: 1. Surely Not Shameless ~ The Transgender Directive; 2. Surely Not Living a Lie ~ The Transgender Directive. These present both the spiritual and physical dangers tied to the recent “I think I identify with transgender” decree from President Obama. This is moving quickly in our society and especially so when the media’s bias is presenting the kind of things that promote LGBT (Lesbian, Gay *Homosexual, Bi-sexual, Trans-sexual).

Key points include scriptures on: evil thoughts, evil desire, lewdness, shameless behavior, uncleanness, motives, the mind, depraved passions, wrath of God upon the children of disobedience, walked in IMMORALITIES, lived in IMMORALITIES, what it means to despise wickedness and IMMORALITY.

What are the Works of the Flesh? The WORKS OF THE FLESH in the New Testament scriptures are part of God’s moral analysis to be taught and applied. The Vatican recently issued a new document stating when people ask their priests for a blessing “an exhaustive moral analysis should not be placed as a precondition for conferring it” – this is mentioned later with comments in this article. The works of the flesh are sin (I Jo 3:4). We’re told they are what keeps one from Heaven, and sends one to Hell – thus, the truth about them must not be rejected. The works of the flesh can be divisive being sound doctrine (I Cor 11:19). God’s word applied correctly will divide the faithful from the unfaithful. False churches push Woke philosophies and LGBT+ based on out right acceptance (!!) of the works of the flesh.

5. Woke and Trans is repeatedly condemned in the works of the flesh LISTING liars, HOMOSEXUALS, LESBIANS, the SEXUALLY IMMORAL, and more -- these will have their part in Hell (Rev 21:8).

The Way of Integrity Psalms 119 This Psalm is often avoided because of its length. This study begins with eight points on integrity with God. You will note that our INCONSISTENCIES are often our reproach in life. And that there is boldness in serving God when there are no INCONSISTENCIES. In order to get rid of the INCONSISTENCIES he had to tell God (confess) of his ways. Understand that it is on the grounds of your integrity that you may plead to God for protective care against the wicked (Ps. 119:121-128). Because he did not want to wander from God the scriptures would be his counselors (lit., the men of his counsel) to establish his ways. These are but a few of the good lesson presented through studying this Psalm. Why not read the article and while doing so read it along with your Bible?

What You Can And Will Do In Christ This brief study should offer assurance to Christians that their efforts to serve God faithfully are attainable, as well as being greatly aided by others' prayers on their behalf. What one can and will do by remaining faithful in Christ is declared through the words of Paul's prayer for the church at Colossae in Col. 1:9-12. Here are the key thoughts: A. Be filled with knowledge, all wisdom and spiritual understanding. B. Walk worthy, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and INCREASING in the knowledge of God. C. Strengthened for attaining all steadfastness and patience, with Joy. D. Joyously giving thanks to the Father. Following is a "Check Your Spiritual Growth With Self-Test Questions" giving further emphasis to our growth and development into mature children of God. The stated "goal" of our efforts is seen in Philippians 1:10-11.

Withdrawal: Family Reunions, Vacations, Special Days etc. This article presents the local church’s collective responsibility to withdraw from a member who walks disorderly, as well as each INDIVIDUAL CHRISTIAN’S DUTY to not associate with any brother who leads an unruly life not according to the instruction revealed in the New Testament scriptures. It includes such verses as Matt. 18:15-17; I Cor. 5:11; 2 Th. 3:6, 14, 15; 2 Cor. 2:6-8 as well as information on invites and feasts found in the New Testament.

They Don’t Have A Right To Be Supported By Our Local Churches The matter of the Truth Magazine Lectureship has come up again (Guardian Of Truth Foundation’s). I ask you to consider the following points: (1) What they cannot accept tells what they are; (2) Their use of old liberal institutional slogans tell what they are; (3) Their silly comparisons tell what they lack. Here is an excerpt on the all-sufficiency of the INDIVIDUAL and local church: “…And get this, sometimes they’ll claim that whereas their brethren speak of the all-sufficiency of the local church they are somehow denying them their viewpoint of the all-sufficiency of the “individual.” We aren’t denying them anything! If they want to follow the New Testament pattern just mentioned then they can be as capable and active as they have ability and energy. Paul was very effective in his sufficiency as an individual and I think that we are all aware of that!”

How a Lesson on Humility Became a “Church Ordinance” Jesus did wash His disciples’ feet and the lesson explained in that context is that they must serve one another. However Ellen G. White, a supposed prophetess of the Seventh-day Adventist church, takes it upon herself to teach that the Lord’s Supper is to be preceded by a “foot washing” as a church ordinance. This lesson should help one to understand the difference between INDIVIDUAL OBLIGATIONS and the “collective” works God gave for the local church as a functioning body or organization.

Individually Supported Societies on the Side Line: This article shows how apostasy repeats itself. We now have some who are building human societies (INDIVIDUALLY SUPPORTED SOCIETIES) as ministries to be supported by individual contributions. The Great Apostasy is Done, Finished! This article brings the APOSTASY of INDIVIDUAL SOCIETIES built by Christians up to date. What was proposed in the 1800s and then again in our lifetime has taken root. Faithful members have always recognized that the congregational plan is the divine arrangement. Societies built today to do the works God gave His organization, the local church, to do are additions to His plan. They are not as is said just another avenue, or toll, for the church to do its work. Again, they are additions to God’s divine plan! Patterns of Apostasy Repeat Themselves: The following brief outline on “Patterns of Apostasy” repeating themselves is used in our congregation for a “special class” when needed. The outline of itself presents a quick view of patterns repeating themselves through the years of even our own lives. It presents both “INDIVIDUALLY SUPPPORTED” and “church” supported societies that have been built by brethren: In 1845 J.T. Johnson’s evangelistic plan for individual not a congregational association; 1849 the American Christian Missionary Society supported by churches; (methods promoting apostasy during this period were used to introduce Instrumental Music in worship: (1) as early as 1851 in Kentucky “We are far in the rear of Protestants on the subject of church music”; (2) L. L. Pinkerton of Midway Ky. 1860 – can pinpoint the suggestions and argument “for”; (3) back again in 1864 W.K. Pendleton admits no N.T. usage but argues on basis of “silence of the scriptures” and “expediency” – it was an expedient like the church building); 1942 Planning for Florida Christian College begins and in 1946 first students. This was not church supported but tactics similar to earlier apostasies; 1948 the Akin Foundation established as an organization for the support of churches of Christ; 1950s the Gospel Press organized to initially be supported by individuals – then started soliciting churches; 1950s the church support of Human Societies – Orphan Homes, the College, etc. The Sponsoring Church movement: The Herald of Truth, Feb. 10,1952 the Highland Church of Christ, Abilene, Tx. – was not same false pattern as A.C.M.S. was; 1970s-80s talk about our brethren building human societies for evangelistic purposes – as with other apostasies can pin point beginnings – 1973 the Cogdill Foundation appealed for contributions (donations) to send free tracts to the Philippines – questioned and dropped the appeal – late 1970s Mike Willis, the Guardian of Truth Foundation – discussions with Gene Frost, etc.; 2004 The first Guardian of Truth Foundation Lectureship – in just some 30 years a major apostasy again! Today we see a most “institutional” non-institutional brotherhood – to list a few through the years: Florida College, Guardian of Truth Foundation, F.C. Membership Requirements According to the First Century Revelation This lesson is Lesson Three in our Series: "Fundamental Lessons on the Church." The Beginning Point Leading To Salvation This article should help anyone today who has come to realize that the variety of explanations offered today due to diverse human philosophies and beliefs have left many frustrated concerning the important matter of salvation. Three such beliefs, the Pentecostal experience, ADULTS BAPTIZING INFANTS, and professing belief without required obedience are examined in the light of God's word and found wanting! If you will take your Bible and read each scripture in this brief study it will enable you to be honest with yourself (see Acts 17:11) about your own salvation. Moreover, it will help prevent the all too common occurrence of many misleading others by that with which they were lead astray themselves.

Baptism As Taught From The Bible In this article an example of baptism in the first century is set in contrast with teaching from the Catholic Encyclopedia, "Baptism, Sacrament of." The explanation that the Catholic Encyclopedia gives simply does not equate with what the New Testament teaches about baptism being an immersion. The mode of baptism taught in the New Testament is immersion and not "pouring." Neither does the New Testament teach a blessing of the water before baptism! Above all the New Testament does not teach INFANT BAPTISM.

How Can One Understand the Word of God? (A Brief Study of Scriptural Authority) Most churches never speak out on the necessity of having “scriptural authority” for what one believes and practices. In fact, most are not willing to deal with the subject because of the lack of authority for things they are doing. Here is a brief study on how to establish scriptural authority by using Statements, Commands, Examples, and NECESSARY INFERENCES found in the Word of God. Each person is expected to read and understand God’s Word, just the same as if someone gave them an important set of instruction dealing with their work, or health, to read for their benefit.

2. The warning is do not be deceived, for those practicing the works of the flesh WILL NOT INHERIT THE KINGDOM OF GOD (Gal 5:19-21; I Cor 5:9-13; I Cor 6:9-11; Ja 1:13-16).

Not looking for "the Church" Many who say they are religious are most often not looking for the church of Christ. How about reading this simple presentation that helps to put one's perspective of "the church" where it should be? Notice carefully the continuum as the scriptures present the death of Christ (Matt. 26:28), the establishment of “the church” as His purchased possession (Matt. 16:18), the forgiveness of sins enjoyed by members of the church, being Christians (Lk. 24:46-47; Acts 2:38, 41), and the INHERITANCE the church is promised that awaits the faithful and is yet in the future (Eph. 1:14; I Pet. 1:3-4).

The Paths of Mercy The subject of God’s great mercy is connected with the things that He delights in. God delights in Loving-kindness, Justice and Righteousness, thus the necessity of our glorying in these things in order that we might receive His mercy! Moreover, God’s mercy is for those who fear Him (Ps. 103:17-18). We must remember that it is in the practice of mercy itself that we receive back from God (Ps. 18:25-27). Along with these there is a checklist of applications on God’s kindness that includes: “INIQUITY is purged by both mercy and truth.”

Casting Down Eloquence & Sophistry Series (2 Cor. 10:4-5) While professing love and understanding false teachers make a mockery of Christ’s teaching in “how” they use Matt. 22:39 – they twist “love thy neighbor as thyself” and fail to put it properly with the preceding first and greatest commandment – to love God with one’s “all” (cf. Matt. 22:37-38). Great deceivers are using “love your neighbor” to put their own stamps of approval on iniquity! They teach the local church is accept and FELLOWSHIP heterosexual couples living in fornication which is sin (Gal. 5:19), those in homosexual and lesbian relationships which is sin (I Cor. 6:9; Rom. 1:26-27), and condone and FELLOWSHIP adulterous marriages which are sinful (Matt. 19:9). A Simple Biblical Pattern For Explaining “Why?” A respondent who questioned the matter of judging those who live together without marriage stated, “I think these days it can be a good thing to live together before getting married.... This obviously goes against your feelings, but they're just your feelings, not everyone's." Last of all she stated, "As far as your last sentence, it's not an idea that it's acceptable and normal, these days, IT IS acceptable and normal.... If you don't like it, then don't do it.... I wouldn't criticize you...why do you judge about people who choose to live together?"
This individual wants to know “Why” I would determine that people who choose to live together are wrong in doing so. I presumed this to be an honest question deserving of an answer.

In this article you will find a simple biblical pattern based upon 2 Tim. 3:16-17 that will be helpful in answering this as well as many other questions non-Christians have about our faith. Understand that Christians believe all scripture is INSPIRED of God (2 Tim. 3:16-17). In the Scriptures the word FORNICATION is properly defined as “illicit sexual intercourse.” FORNICATION as a violation of God’s law for mankind is set forth with the penalty being eternal punishment in hell! Rom. 1:32, 3:23, 6:23, Heb. 13:4, Rev. 21:8). “Instruction” in the Word plainly states that FORNICATION as described above is a work of the flesh that leads to eternal destruction if not repented of (I Cor. 6:9; Gal. 5:19-21).

It’s Camp Time Again! (2013) Brethren building human organizations to function in worship and edification is again addressed by referencing the camps. Such camps are our children’s introductions to brethren building unauthorized HUMAN INSTITUTIONS for worship, edification and evangelism. Local churches should teach on human organizations depreciating God’s own divinely given organization, the local church. You will find points such as: (1) The Fallacy of “You’re another one!” An example of falsely claiming you’re another: “Well it is just like the family when you have someone over for a bible study.” God authorized the family (Gen. 2:24-25). The family is a God ordained institution. When we have a bible study with others there is no collective treasury for all. The Camp is a man-made religious organization; (2) “The Apology that is an Admission”: Some have sought to offer an explanation that their aim is to be neither a church or a Bible Camp in the popular sense, but to instill moral principles and other virtues taught in the Bible. They say that they include Bible study and worship in daily activities but the “main thrust” of the Camp is not evangelism. Smooth words and fair speeches! The “dual-purpose” argument — that the primary purpose authorized the secondary is often used but is of no value. There’s nothing right about worshipping with the human organization. Our Brethren’s “Sole Purpose” Argument & “The Percentage Justification” (2014): “Some of our brethren have built and maintained HUMAN INSTITUTIONS/ ORGANIZATIONS (businesses) that do a portion of the above works belonging to the local church. Such will often seek to justify their own organization’s work in these areas by citing a percentage basis. They will reason if the “sole purpose” is evangelism to save the lost world then it would be wrong. Then they say that the “spiritual work” done is not the primary work of the legitimate business in question. Patterns of Apostasy Repeat Themselves: The following brief outline on “Patterns of Apostasy” repeating themselves is used in our congregation for a “special class” when needed. The outline of itself presents a quick view of patterns repeating themselves through the years of even our own lives. It presents both “individual” and “church” supported HUMAN INSTITUTIONS / SOCIETIES that have been built by brethren: In 1845 J.T. Johnson’s evangelistic plan for individual not a congregational association; 1849 the American Christian Missionary Society supported by churches; (methods promoting apostasy during this period were used to introduce Instrumental Music in worship: (1) as early as 1851 in Kentucky “We are far in the rear of Protestants on the subject of church music”; (2) L. L. Pinkerton of Midway Ky. 1860 – can pinpoint the suggestions and argument “for”; (3) back again in 1864 W.K. Pendleton admits no N.T. usage but argues on basis of “silence of the scriptures” and “expediency” – it was an expedient like the church building); 1942 Planning for Florida Christian College begins and in 1946 first students. This was not church supported but tactics similar to earlier apostasies; 1948 the Akin Foundation established as an organization for the support of churches of Christ; 1950s the Gospel Press organized to initially be supported by individuals – then started soliciting churches; 1950s the church support of Human Societies – Orphan Homes, the College, etc. The Sponsoring Church movement: The Herald of Truth, Feb. 10,1952 the Highland Church of Christ, Abilene, Tx. – was not same false pattern as A.C.M.S. was; 1970s-80s talk about our brethren building human societies for evangelistic purposes – as with other apostasies can pin point beginnings – 1973 the Cogdill Foundation appealed for contributions (donations) to send free tracts to the Philippines – questioned and dropped the appeal – late 1970s Mike Willis, the Guardian of Truth Foundation – discussions with Gene Frost, etc.; 2004 The first Guardian of Truth Foundation Lectureship – in just some 30 years a major apostasy again! Today we see a most “institutional” non-institutional brotherhood – to list a few through the years: Florida College, Guardian of Truth Foundation, F.C. Educational Institutions Among The Brethren by Robert F. Turner (Preceptor 1962) “EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS AMONG THE BRETHREN” by Robert F. Turner. Preface: The below is the first of six articles written in 1962 by brother Robert Turner as duplicated by brother Dan Gatlin. A link will be provided should you desire to read them in full, and I believe it will benefit you to do so. However, I’m compelled to warn that the below approach captioned with the catch phrase “hasten leisurely” was not and is not today the way to deal with apostasy. The phrase as you’ll see was taken from the president of Franklin College who urged brethren in 1850 to “hasten leisurely” in their conclusions touching the subject of the Bible in Colleges, Professorships in Sacred History and Theological Schools. Brother Turner adopts and repeats it as that which best expresses his own personal feelings on this matter in 1962 — some 112 years later. We must never convince ourselves as Christians only that to deal with error immediately and demand repentance will do more harm than good — those involved in error must repent and stop the practice thereof (Cf. Acts 15:1-2; Gal. 2:14). Although you find no scriptures in the several pages of these articles — “church history” has been and easily may be accompanied by New Testament Scriptures to expose the false practices, motives and patterns produced by the human wisdom that seeks to establish human organizations to do the work Christ gave the churches of Christ to do.

At This Point In My Life…. Warnings concerning brethren not desiring sound doctrine, was well as commands to speak the things concerning sound doctrine are easily found throughout the epistles (2 Tim. 4:3; Titus 1:9, 2:1 etc). Some of the answers unscriptural as they were did not surprise me in the least — they echoed the same cat calls we have heard for years to join in fellowship with the denominations and other church types. It set forth the clear division between NON-INSTITUTIONAL (N.I.) churches and those supporting para-church organizations and missions. It mentioned churches that have added instruments of music for worship, jointly ministered with denominational groups and have changed the name but “still identify with the fellowship of autonomous congregations.” In their mind perhaps, but they fail miserably in thinking that those studying the New Testament see them somewhere in there.

Sects, and Sects Among Us Here is an outline / notes, etc., on the sects of the Pharisees and Sadducees, as well as application to sects among us today. When speaking of the church Jesus said “I will build My church” (Matt 16:18). It is His church: 1Co 3:10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.; 1Co 3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.; Eph 2:20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; …the sect of the Pharisees added “more” to God’s word than was written in the Old Testament – today sects add “more” than revealed in the New Testament concerning the church of Christ.

The article contains information on the Sects, Pharisees, Sadducees, Scribes, Lawyers, Jewish Council or Sanhedrin, the Herodians, Human Tradition handed down and bound thus making void the law of God, Heresy is defined, Paul gave up the sect of the Pharisees to be a Christian, problems sects caused to the church in the first century and how they were dealt with, how some think they can Counsel God, Traditions Handed Down today Have a Beginning, Sects Among Us Associated with Human Tradition are Florida College and the Guardian of Truth Foundation, the Arlington Meeting (1968) between some chosen “INSTITUTIONALIST AND NON-INSTITUTIONALIST” is exposed --- some of both sides being intent on justifying the Human Societies of their own choosing, how the Akin Fund among NON-INSTITUTIONALIST is used against them at the Arlington Meeting, Emphasis being: “To keep the church as God gave it the society that intrudes into the works He gave the churches must go! All necessary correction (restoration) must be made back to the New Testament scriptural pattern for Christ’s church.”

Understand that following a desire to know God's will as one reads the Bible they must learn to make the proper applications. Proper applications necessitate distinguishing between what is "right" and what is "wrong." Paul said concerning God’s word, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for INSTRUCTION IN RIGHTEOUSNESS: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works” (2 Tim. 3:16-17). This article presents the profit of God’s word as seen in Doctrine, Reproof, Correction, INSTRUCTION IN RIGHTEOUSNESS and Equipping the Christian unto every good work.

Why We Rejoice With One Another God delights over His people to do them good (De. 28:63). The Psalmist said, “Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart” (Ps. 97:11). We are commanded to rejoice with those who rejoice, and to weep with those who weep, being of the same mind one toward another (Rom. 12:15-16). Our being sorrowful when one is arrogant and suffers is different from sharing joy and sorrow as Paul spoke of. If one of us suffers because we remain arrogant and obstinate then our tears will be the tears of Jeremiah if we love them (cf. Jer. 13:17). However, you will find such “rejoice with” applications in this article as (1) I Can Rejoice With One Who Is Faithful Whom I Know God Delights Over To Do Good; (2) I Can’t Rejoice With Another When I See The Vanity Of The World; (3) I Can Rejoice With One Who Rejoice In Truth; (4) I Can Rejoice With One Who Wants God’s INSTRUCTION, Counsel, And Eye Upon Them.

Unwise Unsuspiciousness (Jer. 40:14) This is based upon Gedaliah’s mistake as recorded by Jeremiah. We see stupidity in the pattern presented by refusing to credit information given by “all”; being indignant towards the informant and accusing him of lying (Lies). “You liar!” You will often hear that when the evidence points to something one doesn’t want to believe. He should have listened. This also includes events in the family of David when Amnon rapes Tamar, and Absalom seeks to kill Amnon. Ungodly friends will support improper sexual thoughts and help another fulfill them -- the INSTRUCTION of FOOLS is folly – FOOLS avoid the obvious needed reproofs and warnings.

“When the Lord opens the door…” This article relates two separate incidents with regard to those who think INSTRUMENTS OF MUSIC are acceptable in church worship. Both serve, I believe, as a reminder of how apostasy works and presents itself in order to perpetuate its working of error. The second incident illustrates how apostasy never stands still. Concern for the Songs We Sing We SING particular songs because we are concerned about doing all things scripturally for edification, teaching and admonition. Read this to understand why there was no use of INSTRUMENTS OF MUSIC in the worship of the churches in the first century churches of Christ.

The Appreciation Of Godly Sisters In Christ The tremendous value of our sisters in Christ is set forth in this article. Beginning with the honor that is due to faithful women in Christ, the study sets forth the various duties enjoined upon them in regards to their family and service rendered to the church that Christ built. Children and family members must practice piety towards their “own” and requite their parents, Paul said (I Tim. 5:4). Moreover, they are to be ready unto every good work (Eph. 2:10, I Tim. 5:10, Titus 3:1, 2:14). Christians who are ready and yield their bodies unto God as INSTRUMENTS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS in sacrificial service are fulfilling the perfect will of God (cf. Rom. 12:1-2, 6:13). They are glorifying God in their body and spirit, which are God’s (cf. I Cor. 6:13-20). Christ is being magnified (shown) in their body (Phil. 1:20). Sometimes, without careful study, people think that one has to be persecuted or beaten as Paul was for Christ to be magnified in them. Not so! Why not study the nine points of application directed towards their being scripturally appreciated?

The Way of Integrity Psalms 119 This Psalm is often avoided because of its length. This study begins with eight points on INTEGRITY with God. You will note that our inconsistencies are often our reproach in life, and that there is boldness in serving God when there are no inconsistencies. Also, that affliction is one of God’s ways to “make” us understand His precepts. One lesson is what God tells us to do when persecuted with a lie. Also, we should fear God’s judgments rather than fearing man. Understand that it is on the grounds of your INTEGRITY that you may plead to God for protective care against the wicked (Ps. 119:121-128). These are but a few of the good lesson presented through studying this Psalm. Why not read the article and while doing so read it along with your Bible?

Vindication Based Upon One’s Righteousness, Integrity This study is linked with a prior article and is a continuation of INTEGRITY as defined from Psalms 119, as well as other Psalms. For the first article see the introduction. In this study you will find such points as: (1) Pleading for protection against the wicked, (2) One’s hope for deliverance, (3) Asking God for vindication, (4) Who is fit for communion with God, (5) What preserves when in distress, (6) The “I Haves” of INTEGRITY, and (7) David’s INTEGRITY.

Ignorance, Ignoring and Intent This article deals with the fallacies of people who reason if I don’t know then I won’t be accountable – these forget Sin; people who reason that you don’t know my “intent” – I’m sincere in what I do – these often also forget Sin; people are led to believe if you can’t prove my “INTENT” then you must accept my actions. People will lie to cover INTENT (Eph. 4:14). Error that stems from ignorance never leads another or others in the right way! To “ignore” does not imply sincerity but the opposite – this is a large part of what contributes to “ignorance” in our churches and among brethren individually.

Rule of Law Points From the authority implied in the “name” of Jesus Christ, who has all authority, several points are made concerning the Gospel as the power of God unto salvation for all men, Jesus authority to judge by His law, Sin as a violation of Christ’s law and how His law convicts of sin. Major emphasis is also given to the RULE OF LAW of law being attacked by ignorance, WRONGFUL INTENT, GOOD INTENTIONS, sincerity, carelessness, ignoring, impulse and inconsistency, showing partiality, outright defiance, distortion of one’s words and partial narratives of the Word (to neglect to teach the whole counsel of God, Acts 20:27, 32.). Applications include God is no respecter of persons, to show respect of persons is sin, the kind of judgment that condemns oneself, and the one who boasts in God’s law but dishonors God through breaking the law.

About the Label “Advertisement” On Our Articles I’m often asked why there is a label of “advertisement” at the bottom of the church’s articles. They’ll often say, “No one else’s does, why yours?” The newspaper places it there. Consider this: While the designation is accurate, for our articles tell people about the church of Christ, it is obvious that the content is what we are seeking to get forward (Cf. 1 Tim. 3:15). There should be a distinct difference in what a church of Christ presents to the community, and that of the various false religions. And there is if the church is doing its work as it should. By refusing the often sought “marketing approach” the Truth becomes apparent. Included is an exposure of the oft used “Try Us And You’ll Like Us” pitch. The point is that YOU are just what GOD’S WORD is looking for! It is in speaking the Word that the secrets of the heart are made manifest to those who hear it (I Cor. 14:24). Those who go a lifetime playing “games” — thinking that they have escaped the eyes of God — are greatly deceived:

Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and INTENTS OF THE HEART.

Heb 4:13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

When visitors are looking to please “self” rather than God then you’ll often see them get up and march out. Those who hate the Light aren’t comfortable around applicable teaching. It isn’t that the church is not friendly. It is what Jesus said about those who love darkness rather than light because their deeds are evil (Jo. 3:19-21).

Why Churches Fear Applying “Scriptural Authority” ~ Selected Newspaper Articles These deal with false plans for unity. Local churches of Christ must continue to be the pillar and support of the truth. These three articles relate to the fear manifested by church leaders who use human wisdom, emotions and lies; whose goals are power, prestige, pleasing self and material gain. Members themselves love their false position that allows them to fulfill their own lusts. Accepting the elements in this shared arrangement led to Unity in Diversity among denominationalists (I’m OK, you’re OK); a mutual agreement that we’ll soft pedal on doctrinal differences and fellowship one another. This deliberate deception to ignore the authority of the Scriptures expanded as Prayer became an ecumenical tool used to unify the Inter-Faith Movement (So called “Christians,” Jews, Muslims, and those of Eastern faiths joined together in worship); “ONE God many faiths” flies in the face of “ONE Lord,” ONE body” and ONE faith” (cf. Eph. 4:1-4).

Things in Christ not found in Islam One simple but effective way of explaining the difference between a major “world” religion and the gospel of Christ (the New Testament, Matt. 26:28) is to show the things found “in Christ” that are not found elsewhere. Christians can approach God's presence any time in prayer knowing Christ ever lives to make INTERCESSION for us (Rom. 8:34).

A Request: Pray For Me! This article deals with Christians who request prayer on their behalf. Several points are made concerning the one making the request such as: "Are they engaged in supplications, i.e. INTERCESSION for others themselves? (Ephs. 6:18-19, Phil. 1:19, Rom. 15:30, 2 Cor. 1:11).

The Majority Know Another Jesus The church at Corinth gladly tolerated fools who taught another Jesus and different gospel, Paul said (cf. 2 Cor. 11:4, 19). It is possible for one to read the trifling literature of fools and possess a completely false view of Jesus. Read the Gospels for your self and see what He really did do and teach. Here’s a start with applications from the Gospels themselves that show the stark differences between what most think Jesus taught and what He really did teach! Verses are presented deal with ---“INTER-FAITH” AND “MULTI-FAITH” ARE NOT POSSIBILITIES WITH JESUS… .

Is There Prophecy Today? This is a study of prophecy in the New Testament dispensation. It issues appropriate warnings to those who are often deceived by false teachers claiming the gift of prophecy. “Prophecy” was but one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit enumerated in I Corinthians 12:8-10. There is an abundance of information here on the “gifts of the Holy Spirit” besides prophecy. Prophecy, as a spiritual gift, appears here along with speaking in tongues, the word of knowledge, and various other spiritual gifts. Notice that there were nine spiritual gifts in all that were given to the infant church: 1. the word of wisdom, 2. the word of knowledge, 3. faith, 4. gifts of healing, 5. working of miracles, 6. prophecy, 7. discerning of spirits, 8. different kinds of TONGUES (languages), 9. the INTERPRETATION OF TONGUES.

Included in these short articles is “War Protesters.” This article is about the great spiritual warfare that is being waged against Satan today. Those on Satan’s side protest with “Peace, peace, when there is no peace” (cf. Ezek. 13:10). For such war protesters the only evil is another’s INTOLERANCE! These protesters brag on themselves, with their fleshly wisdom, while speaking against those who are striving to please God and not man (cf. Jo. 5:44; 12:43). They are cowards who fear man and not God!

A Study of Sin Confessed This article addresses the responsibility that Christians have to confess the sins they commit in order that they might be forgiven. It explores various reasons and motives that lay behind one's willingness to confess their wrongdoing. Achan in Johshua 7 illustrates how as a result of INVESTIGATION one is brought to confess the sins he committed.

Noah Got Drunk, But That’s Not Me! There is a look here at Noah in failing as all righteous men will do (Ecc 8:20). There are several points here concerning Noah. Also, on ISAAC lying about Rebekah to Abimelech king of the Philistines, in Gerar, without trusting in God.

The Quran On Jesus (Series) You will often hear that Islam honors all prophets, including Jesus. Just what “kind” of honor does ISLAM give to the Lord Jesus Christ? It is certainly not that they believe in His deity because they do not. The truth is ISLAM repeatedly denies that Jesus is God. ISLAM also denies the basic tenants of the New Testament teaching about Jesus and salvation. How do you supposedly honor Him when the honor you give to Him is the dishonor of saying He was not who He said He was? Why not follow this series and see the many truths that ISLAM denies about Jesus that the New Testament teaches and Christians believe?

Newspaper Articles: Christianity Is Not Islam (Series) No one should disregard or deny the “intolerance” of radical Muslims for others’ faiths as shown in current news from Egypt and Iraq. This shows why such intolerance must be kept out of America and elsewhere. The truth is that Muslims themselves deny the basic principles of Christianity. Thus, they can in turn live civilly with Christians stating that they do not believe in Muhammad or ISLAM. Government should not participate in the destruction of the will to confess Christ. What others think of our belief is not as important in this context as what they cannot do to Christians in the United States or elsewhere. Christianity is certainly not a religion that endorses the senseless murder of individuals for either leaving or disagreeing! This series deals with some of the differences between what the New Testament teaches about Jesus and what Muslims believe. The Muslim Feast of Ramadan ISLAM: Here is a close look at Ramadan as presented by Muslims from the Quran in English with English commentaries. Every time I read what Muslim scholars have to say about Islam their message is clearly that Islam is a religion that seeks to destroy belief in Jesus Christ as the Son of God --- it denies the fundamental teaching of the New Testament as the will of God for all of mankind until the end of time. Their teaching on Ramadan obviously fits this established pattern! One interesting doctrine also included is what Muslims are told to do in seeking the forgiveness of their sins.

Notice the emphasis given to one either being “in Christ” or “without” i.e. “outside” of Christ (Col. 4:5). Our politicians are working hard to put a non-idolatrous face on Islam. In spite of their “black rock” myth and crescent moon symbol. Look at the slaughter of those trampled at the hajj. The history of ISLAM shows that it was born in idolatry.

Loving Israel for the Wrong Reasons The history of ISRAEL goes back to God’s promise of Christ through Abraham’s seed (Gen 12:1-3). It was through Christ, Abraham’s seed, that all nations (all men everywhere) would have the offer of salvation (Gal 3:26-29). When you study the salvation of Jews or Gentiles the New Testament points to their baptisms into Christ for the remission of their sins (Mk 16:15-16; Gal 3:26-29). Read this article and you will see the difference between contending for political and national interests, and contending for salvation offered through Christ for all men.

A Jewish Claim Refuted It is sometimes argued that the Bible's holding Jews responsible for the crucifixion of Christ might foster feelings of hatred towards the Jewish people in general. When one considers all of the circumstances connected with the death of Jesus who is called Christ (Messiah is translated Christ in the scriptures), still there is just no place for such a hatred. The reason being that Christians accept Peter's recorded statement that "God exhalted Jesus to His right hand to be Prince and Savior, to give repentance to ISRAEL and forgiveness of sins." How can any true Christian hate anyone since they believe man's only hope of salvation is connected with the sacrifice of the Messiah, whose blood was shed for the remission of sins? The two (hating any race and desiring any man's salvation) just don't go together. Why not read this study and learn more about man's part in the crucifixion of Christ?

The Israeli ~ Palestinian conflict. This article is a reply to an article that appeared in the W.S.J. asking why Christians were not speaking out for ISRAEL. Cynthia Ozick’s compulsion that Christians speak out for the Jews (“Why Aren’t Christians Speaking Out?” Oct. 30th, 2000) on behalf of the history and central claims of Christianity, displayed her ignorance of what Christianity truly is. I will agree that it would be absurd for any Palestinian or other wise to claim there never was a Temple. However, should some try to make the historicity of the Temple a “chimera” as she states then I believe that Christianity will still stand. As a Christian I do not see, as she does, “the heart of Christianity” suffering erasure here; the Bible with its New Testament is here to stay. Please indulge me on this for but a brief moment as I speak out. God did not give Christians the work of upholding the practice of Judaism (I’ll use the term “Judaism” to refer to the Law of Moses as God’s temporary religion given to the Jews at Mount Sinai). Christians are not taught to uphold the Jewish “faith” anymore than they are taught to uphold “the faith” of Palestinians who believe otherwise than they do. Christians are to uphold the Gospel of Christ as the power of God unto salvation unto all men, both to Jews and Gentiles (Romans 1:16). When it comes to “religion” that’s where we stand!

Turmoil in the Middle East ~ Assumptions Answered: This article addresses the following assumptions or postulations that have been made in discussing the Middle East crises:

1. A person claiming not to be religious states that mankind is just like the dinosaurs and will end up destroying itself.

2. Some claim that the bible teaches Christians ought to support ISRAEL militarily.

3. "I know that God has not broken His covenant with the Jewish people."

Jesus Is King of the Jews And All Men; The Israel Of God Today. Here are two short newspaper articles. Jesus is not only the King over the Jews today but He is everyone’s King. He rules today from heaven and has all authority in heaven and upon earth (Read and understand ~ Lk. 10:22; John 3:35; 5:22-27;17:2,10; Matt. 28:18-20; Eph. 1:19-23). The modern state of ISRAEL is not like the Biblical theocracy that the ISRAEL of old at one time was. Moreover, the spiritual ISRAEL of God today is the church that consists of both Jews and Gentiles serving God by faith in Jesus as the Son of God. Why not read these two articles and begin to learn more about Jesus Christ as our King?

Be Sure to Keep Christ at New Years! Professions of love for the “baby” Jesus at Christmas time are often nothing more than hypocrisy. Such are often followed within a very short period of time with drinking and revelry at New Years. Here is a description of what the drunkard brings upon himself. Isaiah’s description included tells why ISRAEL went into captivity.

Infanticide ~ #1 Penalties, Israel’s Idolatry and Practice This is beginning of articles on infanticide. Before I get to our current cultural and political state in these here is some Biblical history that is all important – when ISRAEL turned from God it turned to false gods and practiced infanticide.

There is no praise here for “man” from a physical, ethnic or national background (cf. Rom. 2:28-29).

4. ANY TRUE CHRISTIAN DESIRES THE SALVATION OF ALL MEN REGARDLESS OF RACE OR NATIONALITY.

5. The offer of salvation through the gospel of Christ is not antisemitic – both Jews and Gentiles are equal in Christ’s church.

6. The offer of salvation through the gospel of Christ does not favor Arabs or Gentiles over others – all are equal in Christ’s church.

7. WHEN YOU STUDY THE JEWS’ SALVATION > THE NEW TESTAMENT POINTS TO THEIR BAPTISMS.

8. WHEN YOU STUDY THE JEWS’ LEVITICAL PRIESTHOOD UNDER THE OLD TESTAMENT > THE NEW TESTAMENT TEACHES THE PRIESTHOOD CHANGED FOR THE JEWS TO CHRIST AS THE ETERNAL HIGH PRIEST.

9. WHEN YOU STUDY THE JEWS’ O.T. LAW > THE NEW TESTAMENT TEACHES IT WAS TAKEN OUT OF THE WAY HAVING BEEN NAILED TO THE CROSS.

10. WHEN YOU STUDY OLD COVENANT WORSHIP FOR JEWS > THE NEW TESTAMENT TEACHES IT “VANISHED,” AND THEY COULD BE GOD’S PEOPLE UNDER THE NEW COVENANT (JER. 31:31-34).

11. WHEN YOU STUDY THE JEWS’ TEMPLE IN JERUSALEM > THE NEW TESTAMENT TEACHES ITS DESTRUCTION BY GOD WHICH CAME IN AD 70.

12. WHEN YOU STUDY THE JEWS AS A NATION > THE NEW TESTAMENT CONFIRMS THEY ABUSED THE BLESSING OF BEING CHOSEN BY GOD – THEY LOVED THE IDOLS AND FALSE GODS OF THE NATIONS, BEING A STIFF-NECKED REBELLIOUS PEOPLE (CF. STEPHEN’S SPEECH TO FELLOW JEWS, ACTS 7; READ DE 9:6-7, 24).

13. WHEN YOU STUDY THE JEWS’ HUMAN TRADITIONS AS A NATION > THE NEW TESTAMENT TEACHES THEIR HUMAN TRADITIONS WERE “VAIN WORSHIP” (CF. MATT 15:3-9; MAR 7:5-9).

14. THAT GOD CHOSE ISRAEL THROUGH WHOM CHRIST CAME ACCORDING TO THE FLESH, AND THEN MOST JEWS REJECTED JESUS CHRIST WAS A GRIEF TO PAUL, HIMSELF A JEW.

15. PARTIAL BLINDNESS OF ISRAEL IS SEEN IN THEIR REJECTING THE NEW COVENANT, AND BECOMING ENEMIES OF THE TRUTH OF THE GOSPEL (ROM 11:25-32). PAUL (A JEW HIMSELF) IS TRUTHFUL AND IMPARTIAL IN STATING THIS. BUT THERE IS ALSO A REMINDER TO THE GENTILE CHRISTIANS THAT THEY MUST REMEMBER THEY WERE ONCE DISOBEDIENT TO GOD, AND SO THE HOPE REMAINS THAT MORE AMONG THE JEWS WILL BE CONVERTED TO CHRIST THROUGH THE GOSPEL, I.E., THE NEW COVENANT. IT IS THE NEW COVENANT THAT IS GIVEN TO BOTH JEWS AND GENTILES THAT IS SPOKEN OF HERE.

16. PAUL QUOTED ISAIAH’S TRUTHFUL AND HONEST STATEMENT TO FELLOW JEWS WHO IN UNBELIEF REJECTED THE PREACHING OF THE GOSPEL (ACTS 28:17-31).

17. JESUS WILL APPEAR “A SECOND TIME” TO AWARD SALVATION ON THE DAY OF JUDGMENT.

18. EVERY PERSON OF EVERY RACE INDIVIDUALLY WILL STAND BEFORE CHRIST ON THAT DAY.

23. WHEN CHRIST JUDGES “ALL” ON THAT DAY ANYONE NOT FOUND IN THE BOOK OF LIFE IS CAST INTO HELL.

24. WHO DO CHRISTIANS THANK GOD FOR WHO GIVES US THE VICTORY? GOD WHO GIVES US CHRIST.

How to Deal With Issues While Loving and Following Jesus Those who deal with ISSUES that come up concerning sound doctrine are often called arrogant for doing so. But think of the arrogance that exempts from the task. Brethren (including all members) don’t get to decide “which issues” they’ll deal with for the “issue” comes to you and your church by evil men entering in among you, and from within i.e. from among yourselves men arise speaking perverse things. It is sheer arrogance for one to think they are so important that they do not have to deal with any issue that involves sound doctrine.
